When selecting a shipping container, its important to consider the type and size of your cargo, budget, and shipping requirements. A freight forwarder can help you not only determine the best type for your business needs, but also help reduce shipping costs and improve the overall efficiency of the supply chain.
Also, shipping containers come in various types and sizes, but the most common are 20´ dry and 40´ dry containers.
Hereby the capacity of a shipping containers depending on its size, type, and weight limits:
• 20´ containers hold approx. 1,170 cubic feet and up to 10 standard pallets / 24 tons.
• 40´ containers hold approx. 2,390 cubic feet and up to 22 standard pallets / 27 tons.
Shipping companies have weight limits for containers, and cargo that exceeds these limits may require special handling or may need to be split into multiple containers.

Choosing which container load is best for your business
FCL and LCL are two different ways of shipping cargo in maritime transport. The choice between them depends on the volume, size, and nature of the cargo being shipped.
FCL refers to dedicated containers, the full container is paid for regardless of the amount of cargo and space used.
LCL is used when the cargo does not fill an entire container. In this case, the cargo is consolidated with other shipments into one container, and it is often used for smaller shipments that don't require a full container.
Both FCL and LCL rates/prices are subject to change based on market conditions, carrier availability, and other factors. Therefore, it is recommended to contact your logistic partner for confirmation and booking a shipment.
